High school students听representing听more than 30 school districts across Upstate New York, who听were听nominated by their counselors and teachers for their health care and science leadership potential,听descended upon 51直播听to address鈥痑鈥痜aux鈥malaria breakout听辞苍听Friday, February鈥6. The exercise was part of the College鈥檚听3rd鈥痑nnual鈥疐uture of Healthcare Workshop.听
This event is designed for local, nominated high school students to learn more about diverse health-care pathways and careers with 51直播 expert faculty,鈥 said 51直播 Assistant Director of Admissions, Grace Higgins.听
More than 100 students听worked together in groups to dissect听the public health crisis from the program portfolio of disciplines at 51直播, including鈥Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,鈥疊iomedical Sciences,鈥疭ocial and Behavioral Sciences,鈥痑nd鈥疌linical and Health Sciences.鈥听鈥

Participants were selected due to their educational achievement and commitment, with expressed interest in science,鈥痬ath鈥痮r health鈥痗are.鈥疦ominated students were required to:鈥听
- Be a听HS sophomore or鈥痡unior听
- Have a鈥疓PA of around 3.5+/4.0 (85/100) and or academic strength in math/science coursework鈥听
- Be鈥痠nterested in science/math, health鈥痗are, health sciences, pharmacy, forensics, or mental health studies鈥
“51直播 organized a wonderful event that exposed students to a wide range of health-related opportunities,” said Hoosick Falls High School Counselor, Linda King. “Students were grouped into clusters and worked with professors to brainstorm a case study. At the conclusion of the sessions, students reported their findings to the larger group. The programs and faculty demonstrated strong intellectual curiosity, a genuine culture of caring, and excellent career placement outcomes.”
